‘koreapilot’의 에세이 ‘오래 사는 삶과 오래 죽어가는 삶’은 최근 사무실 직원의 친척분께서 정기 검진 결과 유방암 의심 소견을 받으셨다는 소식을 접하고, 이전에 몬트리얼에서 귀국길에 구입한 책자에서 읽은 삶에 대한 글을 되뇌면서 우리 모두에게 삶의 근본적인 문제, 즉 생명의 유한성과 노년의 삶의 질에 대해 다시금 생각하게 만드는 계기가 되었습니다. 이러한 대화는 결국 각 가정의 어르신들이 겪는 건강 문제, 그리고 현대 의학이 부여한 ‘오래 살게 만드는 힘’이 우리에게 던지는 윤리적 질문으로 이어집니다.

The essay “The Long Life and the Long Dying Life” by “koreapilot” recently learned that a relative of an office worker had been diagnosed with breast cancer as a result of regular checkups, and it was an opportunity for us to rethink the fundamental problems of life: the finiteness of life and the quality of life in old age. These conversations eventually lead to ethical questions posed to us by the health problems experienced by the elderly in each family and the “power to make them live longer” given by modern medicine.

‘Koreapilot’의 에세이 ‘나와 다른 생각과의 공존에 대한 성찰’은 인간이 유사 이래로 오랜 시간을 보내고, 성장하고, 문화와 문명은 발전하고, 사상이 나름대로는 높은 경지에 와 있다고 하는데도 불구하고, 근본적인 생각은 여전히 바뀐 것이 전혀 없이 우리 사회를 관통하는 가장 근본적인 문제점은 바로 ‘나의 생각과 바라보는 시각이 다르면 다른 모든 것은 나의 적’이라는 원시적인 분열의 형태가 여전히 지배적이라는 사실이다.

The essay “Reflection on the Coexistence of Me and Other Thoughts” by “Koreanapilot” says that humans have spent a long time, grown, culture and civilization have developed, and ideas are at a high level in their own way, but the most fundamental problem that penetrates our society without changing fundamental thoughts at all is the fact that the primitive form of division, “If my thoughts and views are different, everything else is my enemy,” still prevails.

‘서(恕)의 정신’은 ‘유교’의 핵심 개념인 서(恕)가 ‘기독교’ 성서, 특히 예수의 가르침과 어떻게 공통된 정신적 기반을 공유하며, 인간 윤리의 근거를 ‘타율(Heteronomy)’에서 ‘자율(Autonomy)’로 전환했는지 비교 분석합니다.

We compare and analyze how Seo(恕), a core concept of Confucianism, shared a common spiritual foundation with the Christian Bible, especially the teachings of Jesus, and shifted the basis of human ethics from heteronomy to autonomy.

‘Koreapilot’의 ‘죽은 상태에서 살아가고 있다고 생각하면’은 인간의 근본적인 천성, 수많은 지혜서의 한계, 그리고 이를 극복하기 위한 ‘나는 죽은 상태에서 살아간다’는 독특한 역설적인(Paradoxical) 사고방식은 매우 흥미롭고 강력한 자기 수양법으로 보입니다. 이러한 접근법은 단순히 고정된 천성을 ‘바꾼다’는 불가능한 목표 대신, 천성의 완고함 자체를 무력화시키는 매우 고차원적인 심리 기법으로 해석될 수 있습니다.

The fundamental nature of human beings, the limitations of numerous books of wisdom, and the unique Paradoxical way of thinking of ‘I live in the dead’ to overcome it are seen as a very interesting and powerful way of self-discipline. Instead of simply the impossible goal of ‘changing’ a fixed nature, this approach can be interpreted as a very high-level psychological technique that neutralizes the stubbornness of nature itself.
