The Daily Stoic, co-authored by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman, is a practical philosophy essay that reinterprets the Stoic philosophy of ancient Greece and Rome for modern life, designed for readers to read and practice every day for 366 days of the year. Rather than a novel with a narrative plot, it is structured as a meditative journal, presenting a philosopher’s quote and insight each day. Based on the original texts of representative Stoic philosophers such as Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus, this book unfolds three core areas—Perception, Action, and Will—through a twelve-month journey.

The “Meditations” of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus is not a novel with a specific event or a narrative with a clear beginning, middle, and end, but rather a personal spiritual journal and philosophical inner monologue written by the 16th emperor of the Roman Empire and a Stoic philosopher for self-discipline and reflection both on the battlefield and in the court. Composed of 12 volumes in total, this book was not written for publication, so it contains, without filter, the loneliness experienced by the highest authority, the weight of duty, the conflicts of human relationships, and reflections on death.
